Eight students tested for rank advancement, including five for blue belt ranks. It is good to see that so many are dedicating themselves to their practice! Congratulations!
During Kokikai testing, students are tested for their knowledge of specific techniques, as well as ukemi (attacking and falling) skills and understanding of basic principles such as posture and centering.

In addition, more advanced students are asked to defend against multiple simultaneous attackers.

Rutgers University hosted a class with Dan McDougall Sensei, 5th degree black belt and Kokikai Regional Coordinator. Dan Sensei brought great attention to detail on some of our most basic movements. It was amazing to find out how much can be learned from the way we sit, stand, and even bow.

Rutgers University Dojo was honored to host a class taught by Kokikai Founder Shuji Maruyama Sensei, one of the worlds greatest living martial artists.
Sensei demonstrated the incredible strength and power that can come from practicing Kokikai Aikido. Sensei is a living example that, as he says "relaxed is strong."

Kokikai Winter Camp was held in Lawrenceville NJ. Many club members were able to attend camp this year.
Winter Camp is taught by Kokikai Founder Shuji Maruyama Sensei. Each time he visits the US, Sensei is more powerful and yet more relaxed. He is a wonderful teacher and an impressive role model for his students. Over 260 people attended Winter Camp from over 40 dojos across the country.

Congratulations to Princeton dojo for 25 years of practice! Rutgers aikido students attended the festivities at Princeton University and Princeton Y. The weekend included four fantastic practices taught by the dojo founders, Dave Nachman Sensei (6th dan) and Roni Burrows Sensei (6th dan) who travelled from Phoenix, AZ. Participants included Kokikai students from New Jersey, Pennsylvania and New York, as well as San Francisco and Boston.
The two Princeton dojo have played an important part in the growth of Kokikai Aikido. Rutgers dojo is one of the over 30 Kokikai practice groups founded by former Princeton students. We wish Princeton many more years of fruitful practice!
